Jason Owen, our Managing Director, is a regular speaker and contributor to the technology event circuit here in Australia. Speaking with 30 plus years’ experience, he is an authority on the innovation of Broadcast and IT Technologies, Event Communications and RF Engineering.

Jason’s industry experience spans just over 30 years in the Broadcast Television, Radio and Live Production Fields. Starting as an Apprentice Radio Fitter in the late 80’s he went on to work for the Seven Network for 3-4 years in various roles including Installation, Master Control, RACECAM and Outside Broadcast engineering roles before moving over to Radio with Austereo as a Senior Technician. During that time, he undertook more study to achieve my Associate Diploma in Electronic Engineering. Next stop was to be the Audio-Visual world before starting his own Production company in the late 90’s. During this time, Jason also worked on many international broadcast projects including the Summer and Winter Olympics in senior technical roles.

Move into the 2000’s and Jason returned to Radio as the Chief Engineer at Austereo where he managed the build of the current premises in World Square Sydney. It was during this time that Jason joined the TISN and the Communications Industry Advisory Group. As part of that group Jason was able to travel to the US and participate in the DHS hosted Cyber War Games and other Defence/ACMA run committees.

After getting married in 2004 Jason moved back into Television and senior management roles with the key Outside Broadcast players in the country. During his tenure at Cutting Edge he was one of two that developed the world’s first on body HD wireless camera system for AFL umpires to wear. At that point he also headed back to university to undertake a double BA in Political Science and Modern History. After stints at NEP and Riedel Communications, 2014 saw Jason join Gearhouse Broadcast where he started their Event Communications division and developed that team into Australia’s leading Event Communications service provider.

During that time at Gearhouse, Jason invented the SportsCom (IP and Trademark owned by Gearhouse Broadcast) referee communications system which has been used as the AFL and Super Rugby comm’s solution for the last 3 years. In between all that busy-ness he also continued to work on the Olympics and various World Cup events.Fast forward to 2018 and Jason left his position at Gearhouse to go back to working for himself at D2N. Aside from all of that life experience, Jason is also an accredited ACMA licence planner which he has held for 3-4 years now.
