RF over Fibre technology in its most pure form is a replacement for traditional copper cables. To understand why you would want to replace copper with fibre you need to understand a few keys points on how RF works with cable.
Essentially the frequency you are operating and the length of the cable (and type) are directly proportional to the loss of that system. IE: A 100m cable running a 100MHz signal will less lossy than a 500m cable running a 10GHZ signal.
It is because of these losses that RF over Fibre is the right choice for delivering low loss solutions across a wide band of frequencies. Because the loss of optical cable is negligible the quality and level of the RF signal can be maintained over very long distances. This lowers the cost of ownership and improves signal to noise regardless of the copper alternative.
